ENGLISH LANGUAGE COURSE
 

In the ‘ MERIDIAN ' course center English course has been given the major part of our attention. Our center offers English courses scheduled in 50 classes for each level. Each class lasts for 90 minutes and three classes are held per week. In other words each course taker finishes one level of the English language within 14 weeks which is the appropriate length of time calculated by the respective specialists.

During the course period the course takers undertake a considerable number of testes so that the teachers are able to perceive the weak points of each student and work over them. At the end of the respective level we provide our students with the officially known certificates.

The text we have chosen for our English course teaching is ‘Opportunities', a contemporary text with levels fitting to the interests of all ages. This edition is accompanied with a workbook linked to the main book, with a mini dictionary designed for quick learning of new words, and with the CDs appropriate to work individually and in group, useful for the practice classes held in our center.

During the teaching classes, theory is arranged with practice. In other words, students our students are frequently provided with work book exercises, testes, and detailed brochures about the explained topics. It is worthy to be mentioned that during a course which is the equivalent of a level of English language our students are taught a minimal of 800-1000 new words.

BEGINNER

The Beginner level is programmed and applied to the students who have minimal knowledge about English and come in contact with it for the first time. This level is focused on creating the bases in the grammatical and practical aspect of English language. ‘New Headway Beginner' accompanied with the workbook, mini dictionary and CDs is the chosen book. This contemporary method gives the student the possibility to learn the grammar and at the same time to practice the written and spoken English. At the end of this course we expect our students to gain minimal knowledge of language and create the bases of the future levels of English. At the end of the course we provide our students with the certificate of the respective level.

ELEMENTARY

The Elementary level is programmed and applied to the students who have some minimal knowledge about English including the structure and communication ways but are not able to communicate, write and enter conversational interchange. This level is focused on providing the students with the needed elementary knowledge of English language. Our chosen book is ‘ New Headway Elementary' accompanied with workbook, mini dictionary, and the specialized CDs. This contemporary method gives the student the possibility to learn the grammar and at the same to practice the written and spoken English. At the end of this course we expect our students to be able to communicate in a simple way, to be able to write and understand elementary texts. At the end of the course we provide our students with the certificate of the respective level.

PRE-INTERMEDIATE

Pre-Intermediate level is appropriate for the students who already have the bases of English language and are able to communicate, to write and read English. This level is focused on extending this knowledge. During this level the student gains knowledge in using the daily language, in using the most important part of English grammar, and also has the opportunity to learn the appropriate amount of new words in order to be able to express his opinion in different topics. The chosen text is New Headway Pre- Intermediate' accompanied with the work book, with the mini dictionary and the CD. This contemporary method gives the course taker the opportunity to learn the theory and at the same time to practice the written and spoken English. At the end of this course the student is able to read books of a certain level, to follow some TV programs, and write texts of low complexity. At the end of the course we provide our students with the certificate of the respective level.

INTERMEDIATE

The Intermediate level is appropriate for the students who have considerable knowledge of English, and who are able to communicate, to take part in dialogues and debates, to write and read texts of a certain complexity. During this level we are giving the student the chance to improve and extend his previous knowledge. During this level the course taker is able to communicate, write and read English freely. The student gets high knowledge of all the grammatical rules and is able to express himself easily in each debate due to the high number of new words learned in this level. The chosen book is 'New Headway Intermediate' accompanied with the work book, the mini dictionary and the CD. This contemporary method gives the student the opportunity to learn the grammatical rules and at the same time to practice the written and spoken language. At the end of this course the student must be able to use the right pronunciation of the words j and be able to defend his opinions and ideas. With the extending of the overall knowledge about English language the student finishing this level is supposed to read and write texts of a certain level of complexity. The student starts getting used even to academic writings. At the end of the course we provide our students with the certificates of the respective level.

UPPER INTERMEDIATE

The ‘Upper Intermediate' level is appropriate for the students who have a high level of knowledge of, who are able to communicate, to be part of dialogues and debates, to read and write fluently and that want their English to be of an academic level, in other words that want to gain advanced knowledge of English language. During this course to the student is given the opportunity to enforce and extend his previous knowledge. During this course the student is able to communicate, read and write the academic English language, to use English formally and informally. The student gets full knowledge of all the grammatical rules and learns a high number of new words that create him the possibility to express himself easily at any case. During this course we prepare our students to be ready to study and work at international institutions that use English as education and communication language. He chosen text is ‘Opportunities Upper Intermediate' accompanied with the work book, the mini dictionary and the CD. This contemporary method gives the student the chance to learn theory at details and practice the written and spoken English as well in details. At the end of this course the student is able to use English without any problem. The student gets used to the complexity of the academic texts. At the end of the course we provide our students with the certificate of the respective level.
